Catia V5 & V6 Student Edition Download for Mac/PC

CATIA is one of the pioneers in the space of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software used for design and engineering. Software development started over four decades ago in 1982. by the French company Dassault Systèmes. The name is an acronym for Computer Aided Three-Dimensional Interactive Application.

It unites 3D features with 2D tools to cover every design-to-manufacture process. Not only does it help you model any type of product, but it lets you simulate and experience its real-life behavior. Today it’s commonly used for rendering and sketching, market compliance, engineering insights, collaboration and multi-platform development in various industries, especially in the aerospace and automotive sectors. For example, European aerospace manufacturer Airbus uses the software for its manufacturing processes. It has become the standard for virtual product development, from the design of shampoo bottles to the prestigious sports cars of tomorrow.

This tutorial will demonstrate how to download and install the V5 or V6 student version.

Due to its complexity, it has a steep learning curve. Companies that invest in this type of software typically stick to it for years and treat it as an investment. For students, this is a great sign as knowing how to use CATIA is a well-paid and in-demand skill.

The full version of CATIA through the 3DEXPERIENCE program is $11.200 as a one-time fee and $2000 for an annual maintenance fee.

Download and install the student version of CATIA with 3DEXPERIENCE

Becoming skilled and certified matters to every student looking to boost employability. 3DEXPERIENCE lets you create, learn and get certified. The price of the program is only $60 annually. With the subscription, you’ll get access to cloud-based full 3D generative modeling that lets you quickly create & explore organic shapes, generate 3D patterns and more. You’ll also get access to the student community, live webinars and online courses, collaborative tools and 3 certification exams.

These are the certifications that you will be able to obtain with the 3DEXPERIENCE program:

  • Mechanical Designer (hands-on)
  • 3D Innovator
  • Collaborative Business & Industry Innovator

There is no free student version of CATIA.

To access the software:

  1. Go to the official CATIA for students page
  2. Click on the “Buy now & get certified” button
  3. On the next page, click on “Go to payment”
  4. If you don’t have an account, you will be prompted to create one. Click on “Create your 3DEXPERIENCE ID”
  5. Enter your details, including the payment information
  6. Once the registration and payment is complete, you will receive an email with links to access the apps included in the 3DEXPERIENCE package

Can CATIA be installed on macOS?

For the regular desktop version, currently, CATIA can be installed only on devices running Windows operating system. However, there is a workaround. With the Parallels platform (50% OFF for students), you can install Windows OS on an Apple macOS device without rebooting. This program lets you run Windows-compatible software on Apple computers simultaneously.

Also, CATIA can NOT be installed on Linux. The best alternative for that operating system that has similar functionalities is FreeCAD.

As mentioned before, CATIA for students is a part of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform that is entirely web-based, which means that you can access the 3D modeling software from a browser on any operating system.

CATIA V5 for teachers

The best way to access the full version of CATIA is through your teacher and educational institution. If you are an educator in an academic institution, you can request access to the CATIA V5 edition by contacting the sales team. You must prove that you are affiliated with an accredited educational institution as a teacher and reach out through the institution’s .edu email address.

Currently, two versions are available for teachers: Discover for secondary education and ED2 for higher education. Teachers can provide students with the paid version of V5 for homework purposes.
